Companies House filings checker
This free checker reads live Companies House public-register signals, not a grant guarantee: company_status, accounts.overdue, confirmation_statement.overdue, and next-due dates. It does not order a certificate, invent eligibility, or promise that Companies House will grant the summary statement (good standing). Use it before you pay for a COGS so overdue filings do not waste a refused standing route.

How to read the result
The checker turns the public company profile into a plain-English verdict. Treat every field as a snapshot of the register at the moment you click Check — always confirm on Find and update before you pay.
- Looks current — status looks active (typically “Active”) and this check saw no overdue flag on accounts or the confirmation statement. Soft path to order a Certificate of Good Standing or a documents pack. Still not a promise that Companies House will attach the summary statement.
- Filings risk — overdue accounts and/or confirmation statement on the live profile. File on GOV.UK first; do not expect the summary statement (good standing) yet. A certificate of fact may still be available — many banks reject that wording.
- Not eligible / other status — dissolved, liquidation, administration, receivership, conversion, or similar. A normal good-standing summary statement is unlikely. Open the live record and take counsel advice if needed; UKCOGS will not invent eligibility.
- Next due / days left — the register “due by” deadline plus a plain-English days-until (or days overdue) count. Planning only — not a Certificate of Good Standing validity period. Companies House does not print a legal expiry on certificates; recipients often apply their own 30–90 day operational window.
What company_status usually means for ordering a COGS
Status is the first gate. An active private limited company with current filings is the typical summary-statement candidate. Dissolved companies are off the ordinary good-standing route. Liquidation, administration and similar insolvency labels nearly always block standing wording even if some filings look tidy. Strike-off proposals and Gazette notices need a careful read of the live record — see our guide on strike-off and Certificates of Good Standing. Dormant companies can still be in good standing when filings are current; dormancy itself is not a refusal reason — see dormant company COGS.
Why overdue filings block the summary statement
Companies House will only attach the summary statement (previously called the good-standing statement) when the company is up to date with its filings and meets the director / secretary composition rules for the company type. The wording attests continuous unbroken existence since incorporation and that the registrar is not currently taking action to strike the company off. Late accounts or a late confirmation statement are the usual blockers — which is why this tool surfaces accounts.overdue and confirmation_statement.overdue first.
Overdue does not always mean “no certificate at all”. A certificate of fact (certified facts without the summary statement) may still issue. Overseas banks, free-zone authorities and counsel checklists often insist on the standing / summary wording specifically, so a fact-only paper can still fail. File first, wait for the register to update, re-check here, then order standing. Deeper reading: late accounts and COGS · overdue confirmation statement · what good standing does not mean.
Should I order a Certificate of Good Standing after this check?
If the verdict is looks current, many buyers continue to a buy-now UK Certificate of Good Standing (from £79 ex VAT; express £129) or a company documents pack (£249–£299). Official Companies House dispatch for the underlying certificate / certified copy is £22 standard / £65 express (GOV.UK order guidance; Companies House fees list — checked 3 November 2026) and is shown separately from the UKCOGS agent fee.
If filings look overdue, do not expect the summary statement (good standing) route yet. File accounts and/or the confirmation statement on GOV.UK, wait for the live register to update, then re-check with this tool (or open the deep link you saved). Apostille, e-Apostille, embassy and translation stages stay quote-only — official FCDO fees are £45 paper / £35 e-Apostille (GOV.UK legalisation overview, checked 3 November 2026). Never rely on older £30 apostille figures.
Free checker vs the £15 filings check product
This page is the free self-serve tool: you enter the number, read status and overdue flags, and decide. When you want UKCOGS to review the live register for you before you pay for a COGS — for example the HTML looks ambiguous, a partner asked for an agent confirmation, or you simply prefer a human pass — order the Filings check — £15 ex VAT SKU on secure checkout. That £15 product is not a Companies House certificate and carries no official CH product fee. It does not replace filing on GOV.UK, and it is not a guarantee that a later COGS order will receive the summary statement.

FAQ — filings check
Confirm every answer against the live Companies House record. Last updated 3 November 2026.
Why check filings before ordering a Certificate of Good Standing?
Companies House can refuse the summary statement (good standing) when accounts or the confirmation statement are overdue. You may still get a certificate of fact — which many banks reject. Checking first avoids a refused route and an angry email.
What fields does this tool read?
Company status, accounts next due, confirmation statement next due, last-made dates when shown, and whether either filing looks overdue — from the Companies House public company profile (official REST API when a server key is configured, otherwise the public Find and update page). Those are public-register signals, not a grant guarantee that Companies House will issue the summary statement.
What does “next due” mean?
On the public register, “due by” is the deadline for the next accounts or confirmation statement. We surface that date as accounts_next_due / confirmation_statement_next_due (ISO YYYY-MM-DD when we can parse it). It is a filing deadline, not a Certificate of Good Standing expiry.
What does “overdue” mean here?
The live register marks accounts or the confirmation statement as overdue when the filing deadline has passed without an accepted filing. That overdue flag is what often blocks the good-standing summary statement — file on GOV.UK, wait for the register to update, then re-check.
Is this legal advice or a guarantee?
No. It is a plain-English reading of public register fields at the moment you click Check. Companies House can change status after you look. Confirm on GOV.UK before you pay.
What if filings are overdue?
File the overdue accounts and/or confirmation statement on GOV.UK first, wait for the register to update, then re-check. Do not order a COGS expecting a summary statement while filings are late. A certificate of fact may still issue, but many overseas recipients reject that route.
What if the company is dissolved or in liquidation?
A normal good-standing summary statement is unlikely. Open the live Companies House record and take counsel advice if needed — UKCOGS will not invent eligibility.
When should I use the free checker vs the £15 filings check?
Use this free tool for a quick self-serve read of status and overdue flags. Order the £15 filings check on the secure checkout when you want UKCOGS to review the live register for you before you pay for a COGS (for example if the HTML looks ambiguous, or a partner asked for a written agent confirmation). The £15 product is not a Companies House certificate and carries no official CH product fee.
Are Companies House certificates buy-now?
Yes for COGS, certified copies and packs (ex VAT; official CH fees £22 standard / £65 express where applicable — checked on GOV.UK 3 November 2026). Apostille and embassy stages stay quote-only (FCDO paper £45 / e-Apostille £35).
Where is the official register?
Always re-check on Find and update company information (GOV.UK / Companies House). This tool is a private-agent helper operated by Pasecom Group Ltd — not Companies House.
Does a fresh certificate stay valid for 90 days by law?
No. Companies House does not print a legal expiry. Recipients often apply a 30–90 day operational window. Use the document freshness helper for age maths.
Can overdue filings still allow a certificate of fact?
Often yes: Companies House may still issue a company certificate with certified facts even when the summary statement (good standing) is refused because filings are late. Many banks and foreign registries want the summary statement wording specifically, so a fact-only certificate can still fail their checklist. File first, then re-check, before you pay for standing.
