UK Certificate of Good Standing

A UK Certificate of Good Standing is the Companies House company certificate with a summary statement (where filings are current) confirming continuous existence and no strike-off action. UKCOGS orders it for you: Standard £79 (CH £22) or Express £129 (CH £65), ex VAT. Private agent — not the registrar, not an SRA solicitor certificate.

How it works

Three steps with working-day timescales — not marketing adjectives.

1

Submit the company details

Company name, Companies House number, delivery address and whether the recipient needs the summary statement. Orders placed on a UK working day are acknowledged the same day. You confirm you are authorised to order for the company.

2

We order from Companies House

We apply for the official company certificate. Standard: CH aims to send within about 10 working days (official fee £22). Express: order before 11am for same working-day CH dispatch (official fee £65). If filings look overdue for a summary statement, we pause and warn you before wasting the fee.

3

Scan and tracked delivery

When the certificate arrives at our address we scan it and send by tracked UK post or courier to you or your foreign lawyer — typically within 1–3 working days of receipt. Apostille, if needed, is quoted separately before any legalisation work starts.

What you are actually buying

Banks in Dubai, Portugal, Singapore and the US still write “Certificate of Good Standing” on document lists. In UK registrar language that is a Companies House company certificate with a summary statement — previously called the statement of good standing — where the company qualifies. The summary wording confirms continuous unbroken existence since incorporation and that no strike-off action is currently underway.

UKCOGS is a private document agent operated by Pasecom Group Ltd. We order the official certificate from Companies House, receive it at our address, scan it and forward it under tracked delivery. We do not issue certificates, amend the register, or act as Companies House, the FCDO or GOV.UK.

Eligibility warning — read before you pay

  • Filings must be current for the summary statement. Overdue accounts or an overdue confirmation statement usually mean Companies House refuses the summary. You may still receive a certificate of fact; many banks that asked for “good standing” will reject that.
  • The certificate does not show shareholders or PSC. Ownership, Persons with Significant Control and statement of capital have not been available on this product since 2016. Ask for a different certified copy if the recipient needs those facts.
  • We order to our address so we can retrieve and forward the paper. Ordering to the company’s registered office often means you never see the envelope.

Not an SRA certificate of good standing

Search results for “certificate of good standing” mix company documents with regulatory certificates for solicitors (SRA) and barristers (BSB). This page is only for the Companies House company certificate for a UK company. If you are a solicitor needing an SRA certificate of good standing, go to the Solicitors Regulation Authority — we cannot supply it. That distinction matters for buyers and for search engines; it also keeps us honest about what we fulfil.

What appears on the certificate

You can request certified facts such as directors’ names, secretaries, registered office, objects and the summary statement. You cannot request shareholders, PSCs, shareholdings or statement of capital on this certificate. That limit is set by Companies House, not by us. If a foreign counsel’s list says “shareholders on the COGS”, flag it before checkout — we will tell you which certified copy or extract is the realistic route.

Why pay an agent instead of GOV.UK

The official certificate is relatively cheap. Buyers still use an agent when they lack the authentication code, do not want a Companies House account for a one-off job, need the paper on a foreign lawyer’s desk this week, want one invoice covering certificate plus packing and tracked post, or later need an apostille quoted against the same order. Our Standard fee is £79 ex VAT (includes CH £22). Express is £129 ex VAT (includes CH £65). The remainder is ordering, filings sense-check, scan and tracked handling — not a second “official” fee.

Apostille and embassy work (quote only)

If the destination is outside the UK and the recipient wants legalisation, the next step is usually an FCDO apostille for Hague Convention countries, or apostille plus embassy legalisation for some non-Hague corridors. Official FCDO fees to cite this week: paper £45 (plus courier or postage) and e-Apostille £35. Do not rely on older GOV.UK printouts that still show £30 — that figure is stale. Apostille and embassy remain quote-only with UKCOGS. We confirm whether we can take the job before anyone pays for legalisation.

Who typically orders

  • UK companies opening an overseas bank account or registering a foreign branch.
  • Foreign counsel running due diligence on a UK limited company.
  • Directors relocating activity to the UAE, Portugal, Spain, the US, Singapore or Australia.
  • Accountants and formation agents who do not want a Companies House login for every client certificate.

We do not give visa, immigration or bank-account-opening advice. Confirm document lists with the receiving bank or registry. There is no fixed legal “validity period” printed by Companies House; freshness is set by the recipient.

FAQ

Straight answers before you order. Fees cited from GOV.UK as of 16 September 2026.

What is a UK Certificate of Good Standing?

It is the everyday name banks, overseas counsel and foreign registries use for a Companies House company certificate that includes a summary statement (previously called the statement of good standing) where the company is eligible. The summary confirms continuous unbroken existence since incorporation and that no action is currently being taken to strike the company off. Companies House does not sell a product literally titled “Certificate of Good Standing”; it sells a company certificate with certified facts. Confirm product wording on GOV.UK.

Is it the same as a Companies House company certificate?

Yes in substance. The document you receive is an official Companies House company certificate. The “good standing” label refers to requesting the summary statement among the optional certified facts. Without current filings, Companies House may still issue a certificate of fact but refuse the summary statement — which is what many banks mean by “good standing”.

How much does Companies House charge, and how much do you charge?

As of the week of publish (16 September 2026), Companies House charges £22 for a standard company certificate and £65 for express (order before 11am for same working-day dispatch). UKCOGS charges £79 Standard and £129 Express, both ex VAT; those prices include the official CH fee and our ordering, checking and tracked-delivery handling. Always reconfirm official fees on GOV.UK before a hard deadline.

How long does standard versus express take?

Standard: Companies House aims to send within about 10 working days by Second Class post; once we receive it we scan and send on by tracked post or courier — typically a further 1–3 working days in the UK. Express: order must reach Companies House before 11am for same working-day dispatch (First Class); we then send on the same or next working day after receipt. Courier to a foreign lawyer adds transit time. Apostille is separate and quote-only.

What is actually printed on the certificate?

Core company facts certified by Companies House, plus any optional facts you request: directors, secretaries, registered office, objects, and the summary statement where eligible. It does not include shareholders, Persons with Significant Control (PSC), shareholdings or a statement of capital — those options closed in 2016. See GOV.UK “Order certified copies and certificates from Companies House”.

Why can’t shareholders or PSCs appear?

Companies House stopped offering certificates that include PSC, shareholders, shareholdings or statement of capital. If a bank or counsel asks for ownership detail, that comes from a different Companies House document or filing extract — not from this certificate. Tell us early if the recipient list mentions PSC or share capital so we can quote the right certified copies.

What happens if accounts or the confirmation statement are late?

Companies House will only issue the summary statement if filings are up to date. Overdue accounts or an overdue confirmation statement typically mean you get a certificate of fact without the summary — which many banks reject. Use the free <a href="/tools/filings-check/">filings checker</a> or the live register before you pay. We can pause and offer a filings check rather than order a certificate that will disappoint the recipient.

How long will a bank accept it?

Companies House does not print a legal expiry date. Recipients commonly treat certificates as usable for about 30–90 days from issue, or insist on an issue date after a named filing. That is an operational rule of the bank or registry, not UK statute. Confirm the written window with the recipient and use our free document-freshness helper before you reorder.

Can a third party order one?

Yes. Accountants, formation agents, solicitors and authorised representatives routinely order for clients. You must be authorised to order documents for the company. We need the company name, company number, delivery address and confirmation that you have authority. We order to our address so we can scan and forward — not to the company’s registered office by default.

When do I need an apostille as well?

When the receiving organisation outside the UK requires the Companies House signature to be legalised. Hague Convention countries usually want an FCDO apostille. Official FCDO fees (confirm on GOV.UK): paper £45 plus courier/postage; e-Apostille £35. Apostille remains quote-only with UKCOGS until we can fulfil via a contracted partner — we will not take that money until we can deliver.

Is this the same as an SRA certificate of good standing?

No. An SRA certificate of good standing is a regulatory document for solicitors issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. A BSB certificate covers barristers. This page is only for the Companies House company certificate used for UK limited companies and similar. If you need an SRA or BSB certificate, contact those regulators directly — we do not supply them.

Are you Companies House?

No. UKCOGS is operated by Pasecom Group Ltd (company number 17139327), a private document agent. We order official documents from Companies House and arrange delivery. We do not create, amend or certify the register. Official fees belong to government and should be confirmed on GOV.UK.
